Message from the Conference Chair

"Get ready for an LMLGA conference like you've never seen before.  We are changing the format of the conference to allow greater engagement from our members.  This means, instead of speeches, we are going to have conversations.  In fact, "Big Conversations" is our theme.  Our members will be able to focus on a variety of topics directly relevant to Lower Mainland municipalities and interact with experts and fellow municipal leaders to discuss ideas.  Members at the conference will also be able to help us prioritize what LMLGA will focus on in the coming year.  We are very excited to bring this new format to the conference and we hope to see you there."

Pre-Conference Session Information 

1. Pre-Conference Session A – Growing Tourism to BC | Lessons Learned in Whistler

Description: Whistler is a community purpose built as an engine for tourism. Travel to the Resort Municipality of Whistler currently represents 22.5% of British Columbia's total export tourism revenue. We have assembled a panel of experts who will share their insights and then answer any of your questions. Our panelists include:

Mike Furey - CAO of RMOW
Barrett Fisher - CEO of Tourism Whistler

Dave Brownlie - CEO of Whistler/Blackcomb

Val Litwin - CEO at Whistler Chamber of Commerce

After the panel you are welcome to enjoy a walking tour of Whistler Village with leading thinker in mountain resort management Roger McCarthy. Roger will help you look at Whistler differently than you have before.

Details: Wednesday, May 11th from 1:00pm - 3:00pm
Location: This session starts at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler in the Frontenac Ballroom and ends with a walking tour of the village and surrounding area. Please wear comfortable walking shoes.

2. Pre-Conference Session B – Conflict Engagement and Communications - Skills & Tools Workshop

Facilitator: Michael Shoop PhD, Principal at The Shoop Group Consulting Ltd.

Description: Conversations, from friendly to heated, are the stock and trade of every elected local official. Whether it is with local citizens, individually or in groups, staff, or colleagues around the Board Table our capacity to have productive conversations is a necessary ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships and to successfully engage “conflict” in various settings. This workshop will focus on skills and tools that will help you do just that. The workshop will be interactive and participants will receive take-away materials they can use to hone their skills on an ongoing basis.

EARLY BIRD (On or before March 31st): $350.00 + $55.00 for Banquet + GST
After March 31st: $420.00 + $65.00 for Banquet + GST

Guest/Spouse Meal Package Registration: $160.00 + GST (banquet tickets sold seperately) 
Includes: 3 coffee breaks, 2 receptions, 1 luncheon and 2 breakfasts

The LMLGA Executive appreciate that our members often travel in their role as an elected official, resulting in time away from loved ones at home. In an effort to facilitate joint travel, we continue to subsidize the spouse meal package and thank you for pre-registering.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations received in writing on or before Friday, April 29th will incur a $50 (incl. GST) administration fee. All cancellations after the registration deadline will not be eligible for a refund.

Transfer of Registration

All fully paid registrations are transferable to other persons from the same organization. Transfers must be made by the by the registered person in writing to Sherryl Parsons of Rare Affairs at Details must include full name of the replacement person, their title, business address, contact phone number and e-mail address. All other registration details will be assigned to the new person unless otherwise specified. Registration Deadline: April 29, 2016.



Accommodations at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler can be booked at a discounted convention rate either online or by phone:

Phone Reservations: please call 1-800-606-8244 and identify that you are with the Lower Mainland Local Government Association or use group code ‘0516LOWE_001’ in order to receive the discounted group rate which is between $159 and $259 per night depending on the room type selected. Rooms are available on a first come first serve basis. 

New Policy: Please note that there has been a change to the room booking process in order to properly help in managing the LMLGA room block. A non-refundable payment of the first night’s room and tax is required at the time of reservation. This is the same policy that is used when booking rooms for the UBCM convention. Please note that rooms are available on a first come first serve basis.
Alternate Accomodations:
A group rate has been set up at the Four Seasons which is just a short walk away from the Fairmont.  Rates start at $185/night and rooms are based on availability. Individual guests must contact the Reservations Department at Four Seasons in order to secure room reservations. Please dial 1-800-268-6282 and let them know that you are with the Lower Mainland Local Government Association (LMLGA Conference) to receive the special group rates. A valid credit card will be required at the time of booking.
