IDEEAS Speed Networking Pre-Conference Session

WHAT:
Have you ever been on a speed date? Probably not and don’t be scared...We're not setting anyone up. But we are initiating a new “ice breaker” pre-conference event at this year’s LMLGA AGM to provide our members with a unique and fun opportunity to share ideas and get to know people you might not otherwise connect with. It’s an event designed for you to share your community’s best practices and engaging initiatives, and to learn about what is working in other communities and how things are getting done.

WHEN:
3:30-5pm, Wednesday May 12 LMLGA Annual Conference & AGM, Harrison Hot Springs

HOW:
The event starts with every participant sitting across from one other participant. Participants are equipped with at least one brilliant, fabulous, innovative, provocative, inspiring idea, policy or initiative that their community has undertaken and the secret to its success. It can be anything that you feel has been a positive contribution to your community.

The bell rings and the participants have 3 minutes collectively to exchange business cards and introduce themselves and their idea. When the bell rings again, the participants stop and one of the participants moves on to the next person and the process continues.

I know, 3 minutes is not long enough. It’s only meant to whet your appetite and get participants to meet as many people in a short amount of time. Following the Speed Networking session and during the remainder of the conference you can follow up with the people and ideas that inspired you and continue the conversations.

WHAT:
All participants should be equipped with a generous stack of business cards and at least one Awesome Idea, preferably 2 and perhaps more incase council members from your community go on the same “speed date”. If you want you can bring a one-page outline [you’ll need at least 25 copies]. It’s up to you.

RESULT:
Ideally every participant discovers at least one new inspiration that they will take back to their community and act upon. LMLGA also wants to harvest these ideas and provide an online resource whereby these ideas can continue to generate inspiration. More to come on this at the conference!!!

Don’t miss this fun and inspiring pre-conference session!
